Title: Storage Systems Architect
Term: 6 Months Contract
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Description: This position will act as a primary technical principal and is responsible for delivery of enterprise SAN/NAS storage solutions within State Fund. This position is focused on internal IT service delivery and involves interactions directly with all of IT’s technology areas (e.g. Wintel, Networking, VMware, Unix). This position requires a dynamic, hard-working and ambitious individual that excels at multi-tasking and has the ability to ramp up quickly in a dynamic, high-tech environment.  Candidates for this position must be able to, from day one, roll up their sleeves and hit the ground running, and bring their experience to the team to make the project deployments much smoother.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Oversee planning, design, implementation, and operation of storage systems deployment projects.
·         Manage implementation of storage systems projects, from both technical and communication aspects.
·         Responsible for the design, implementation, and support of storage systems across multiple data centers supporting the Storage as a Service (SaaS) offering.
·         Responsible for developing and documenting enterprise solutions for backup and restore procedures using industry best practices.
·         Responsible for design and configuration of Cisco Nexus and MDS fabric switches.
·         Working with team to analyze and design storage solutions to achieve 99.999% architecture with server virtualization, clustering, database, disaster recovery, and geographic redundancy.
·         Assisting with the implementation & management of enterprise-class backup and recovery systems (BRS).
·         Provide on-site and remote technical assistance to other resources and to customers
·         Provide storage systems design, implementation planning, deployment support, software strategy, system troubleshooting, performance engineering and optimization, maintenance strategy.
·         Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer and mentorship to State Fund internal engineering peers as required and lead technical staff responsibilities.
·         Maximizes storage systems performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting storage problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with others on network storage optimization.
·         Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum of 7+ years related network storage engineering and customer support experience.
  • 5- 8 years in installation/configuration of high end servers and storage hardware in data centers
  • 2 – 4 Experience in managing Unix/Linux Enterprise environments. OR
  • 3 – 5 Experience in working in Windows and Linux (CentOS, Redhat)
  • 2 – 4 years experience installing VMWare products – ESX, ESXi, VSphere, vCenter, P2V&V2V conversions.
·         Project Management, Problem Solving, Expert SAN/NAS Knowledge, Complex Enterprise Storage Design and Implementation, Troubleshooting, Network Storage Hardware Configuration, Network Performance Tuning, People Management. 
Technical Skills
·         Thorough understanding of network storage technologies, including administration of enterprise SAN/NAS and storage switches.
·         Administrative scripting skills (Perl, UNIX shell scripting)
·         In-depth knowledge of NetApp storage system. Experience with Hitachi and EMC systems is a plus.
·         Solid understanding of data center related technology and collocation environment.
·         Expert knowledge of working with iSCSI, Fiber channel, SAS and FCoE
·         Configuration and support of data replication technologies such as CIFS and DFS.
·         Storage provisioning via storage provisioning tools and/or command line
·         Experience with backup software configuration and management
·         Experience with virtual technology, such as, VMWare ESX, VMWare VDI and Citrix XenDesktop and micro-partitions is highly desirable.
·         Experience with OS environment running one or more databases including SQL, Oracle, DB2 desirable.
·         Experience supporting enterprise storage systems in a large-scale data warehouse environment.

Preferred Skills
·         Experience deploying and maintaining wireless networks
·         Experience deploying and maintaining VOIP deployments (network side, not telecom) 

Professional Skills
·         Ability to think and operate as a team player
·         Extremely strong communication skills, both written and verbal
·         Experience managing storage system services and similar support providers in a client/vendor relationship
·         Ability to act as a consultant and provide recommendations to the IT / Design Team.
·         Ability to operate as independently or as part of collaborative effort
·         Demonstrate strong project leadership and ability to develop strong working relationships with customer technical personnel.
·         Proven track record of project delivery results.
·         Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to apply them during business impacting incidents.
·         Capable of mentor others and lead by example
